I don't know how, but you guys manage to consistently make a two-hour show about pens interesting and funny. Keep it up!

I’m a Grade 2 and 3 Teacher in Canada. My students are always fascinated by my fountain pens. This year, one boy has shown particular interest, asking me technical questions about how they work and their history. In the winter I asked his parents if it was ok for me to give him a pen as a reward in a vocabulary game we regularly play. They said it was fine and so I gave him a Preppy. Well, of course that led to other students wanting one as well. I bought a bundle of Preppies and extra cartridges, and to my surprise, there haven’t been any ink explosions or messy accidents. A couple of nibs have been damaged by too much pressure, but that’s about it. Two sets of parents have even bought their kids extra pens, though they were wiser and got disposable ones such as Varsities. Keep up the great work. Your pencasts are a much loved routine of my Saturday mornings.

I think the thing about fountain pens is that they intersect with SO MANY subcultures, all of which are very different. You have crafters, scrapbookers, wet-ink sketch artists, stationery fans, dudes in flatcaps who smoke pipes and like pocket knives, straight razors, and moustache wax, steampunkers who like old Victorian and Edwardian gadgets, people who like luxury brands like LV bags, BMVs, and fancy pens, and more. Fountain pens overlap with ALL of them.

Loved Brian’s ink tour. I’m starting to fall down the fountain pen ink rabbit hole, and want to ask: will you come out with an “ink-hoarding dragon” sticker as a companion to the “pen-hoarding dragon” sticker? I’m starting to understand that feeling about using an ink I love but am not sure I can get more of.

If the Pencast was a sitcom, Drew would be the breakout character. Like Fonzie or Urkel. Not the star per se, but the fan favorite who eventually takes over the whole show.

I’m fairly new to the fountain pen world (since December when I bought a Pilot Kakuno) and find your videos are the most informative while still being entertaining. This past weekend I had to make a 4 hour drive home at night, so I listened to old episodes of the Pencast on Spotify and I did not feel tired the whole way home, which was kind of a miracle. I really enjoy listening to your tips, thoughts, and humour. Thanks for keeping me company on my long drive!

My why. My father passed away in September. That was the start of my in-depth journaling. In November, I found fountain pens. That took my journaling to a new level. The excitement of a new pen or discovering a new ink is indescribable. Not many people understand that. Lol. I'm ok with that😊

Maybe instead of pen spotlights, you could do ink spotlights where you swatch inks on different brands of paper? Not all the time, just to mix it up. I'm always interested in seeing the difference paper makes on how inks look.

I know my workmates will never use fountain pens, but i show them how pretty they are any time i get a new one. A new colleague liked them so much he now has a safari and al-star in roller ball he uses every day. Brings me so much joy to see, once i remember he's not stolen one of mine!

I literally saw the thumbnail of this podcast go up, looked at myself in the mirror, and cheered, “that means it’s a Friday!”

Thank you guys for putting on this show and for being so consistent. It’s been giving a new meaning to TGIF for me!

With regards to introducing kids to fountain pens, I let my 3 year old daughter try a few the other day. She loves coloring, so I gave her ones with different inks (reds, greens and purples). She was very interested, but also gravitated toward the stabbing technique on the paper 😂. My son, 7, sees me making fountain pen videos and is incredibly interested in getting a fountain pen and learning cursive! I’m planning to gift him a Varsity or maybe a Safari this summer and give him some lessons. Should be a fun bonding activity. Kids, at least at a young age, will naturally be curious about what you’re interested in. Keeping it light and playful is key.

Seeing your word cloud was really eye-opening for me. I'm newly (1 + yr) into fountain pens, but here are my other interests hobbies: reading, knitting, gardening, baking, drawing, painting, photography (and I used to play trombone, and kind of accidentally jousted with it during a few complex marching band maneuvers, but never in chain mail).

Fountain pens are definitely my #1 hobby now. I’ve also been a watch guy, a guitar guy, a car guy, a boat guy….but with the simple, humble fountain pen and its lovely community- I am home. Football guy… camping guy… bbq guy…biography guy…
