Gigabyte Brix GB-BXBT-2807 Fanless Mini PC - Plex Server Performance

So can the Gigabyte Brix Fanless Mini PC work as a Plex server? Sort of. It will transcode and stream smaller files, but I found it couldn't keep up with a large 1080p Blu Ray MKV file that I attempted to stream to my iPad. The CPU was maxed out and I encountered a lot of stuttering during playback.

The Brix can, however, play back those files quite well without transcoding them first as I demonstrated in my last Brix video.

Most people's biggest question regarding Plex and Brix will be it's ability to transcode 1080p files (and to how many devices simultaneously it can do this).

For example, if you're watching on an iPhone, and an Android - that prefer 720p, it has to downgrade the video quality (using CPU).  Could you do a test on this?

Plug the Brix into ethernet, get a high quality 1080p blueray ripped file, and then see how many different devices in different situations can stream from it.

Guys this model has heating issues in tropical countries so a fan is required to cool it down or else it hangs or will show lag ... so choose wisely

can you do some tests for 1080p live streaming from websites? but directly from the BRIX... like open the web browser and play 1080p videos in full screen. I know for small videos maybe works very well but have some 1080p videos with 1Gb or 2Gb

How did you grab 24 from your DVR and put it on Plex? I'm running a Plex setup and looking to integrate it more into my Comcast system.

I had an i7 HP Envy dv6 laptop that was on its last legs after running Windows 8.1 for a while, and I threw Linux Mint Cinnamon on it after I built my desktop to host my website server with Apache over ethernet, and a Samba server to edit my site files from my desktop. After a few more years and having to do extra things on it, it finally died. I was planning to get this as a replacement to host my site. I have a cheap 120gb PNY SSD I threw in my desktop just to use for whatever. I plan to take that out and put it on this, then get a 4gb RAM stick to put in with it. How well do you think it will perform hosting my site? This is basically the only thing I intend to use it for, but I may have a couple extra apps on it just for if I need them. That's not really important. I just need to know, if I leave this running 24/7 for my server, will it be okay? If, perhaps, I took the top panel off to let the heat vent out freely, would that also be better for it? Since it'll be sitting on the middle shelf of my nightstand, nothing can fall into it, which obviously you'd want to avoid.

Hi Lon! Can this machine run as a 24/7 server? What about the temperature?

How do you think this would work with the i7 BrixPro?  I'm in the market for a new box to act as a  PMS to distribute content to other XBMC and Plex clients.

How good is the brix at twitch streaming a 720p video? Say from a webcam. I would be interested in buying this if it could perform well

Hey Lon, I was thinking about purchasing this PC to use as a Plex server but now I'm kind of stuck. You said "smaller files", I was wondering if you could give me a ball park size that it can handle?
The content I stream almost never exceeds 2GB per file, would this machine be able to handling transcoding that on the fly? Thanks.
