*** ABOUT ME ***
Hello! My name is Jay, and I am a long-time veteran of storytelling and a semi-seasoned DM! I began playing Dungeons and Dragons roughly 5 years ago and began my first ever game as the DM. I figured things out by watching online games and fumbling my way through the rules, and never looked back! I've fallen in love with TTRPG's in general and want to share my experience and thoughts with the world and community I love so much. I currently DM two separate games regularly, and continue to learn every day.

*** ABOUT THE CHANNEL ***
Play Your Role is a project with the intention of helping inspire and coach players and DM’s alike to add story beats and dramatic moments into their games through basic writing concepts, interesting player character inspirations, and discussions on how to effectively roleplay in a way that helps (not hinders) everyone else's roleplay at the table!

This was the most humble, useful, friendly, cheerful and fully amazing video on this topic I've ever seen. I absolutely loved this keep doing what your doing because boy is it great

Sincerely, your humility and clarity on the topic is rare - its even rare for YouTube in general. Your articulation and reiteration is much appreciated.

One of my go-to audio tools is Tabletop Audio, you can make some dope sound sets from a lot of topical sound boards, you can choose from a huge variety of pre-made soundscapes, or if you're super creative you can make a custom soundboard that can accommodate exactly what combinations you need for a given session (or if you just want the music and don't care about ambient sound). And all the audio is royalty free and doesn't require a subscription, it's free and super worth it

Keep that humble attitude my dude and thank you for showing us these products. I do say out of all of them the epoch one looks amazing.

I've supported pretty much all the Yarro Studio map Kickstarters and we have used them several times in game and they are wonderful. Haven't found a reason the use their map scrolls yet, but it is on my to-do list. And yeah, I've found that D&D companies - from map makers, adventure makers, dice makers, whatever - have all just been so kind and excited to bring just a little more fun to everyone's table. The D&D community is great, and I'm so happy to be a part of it!

2:45: are you thinking about possibly uploading game sessions or such? Because I personally would really be interested in seeing some of your games or maybe even a series!

Got the Yarro Studios “immersive battle maps” through their original Kickstarter. Definitely a nice set of battle maps.

ahh YES. Music is so key to setting the vibe. Thank you for validating the many hours I've scoured everywhere in search for all kinds of music, themes and the such.
I recommend finding something that has a motif, so you have a sound bite used in so many different ways you can put out all the different emotions.

Nothing better when there is a "who is that?" moment, and the players catch a glimpse of the theme and there is fear/excitement etc without me even having to say a word (yet)

I know it’s a pain to keep mentioning ‘not sponsored’, but I really appreciate the detail you put into your disclosures here. It’s important to know the details behind things like that including when an item was just sent.

One of my favorite things to use as a DM is using party city gold coins and use them as inspiration. It can be easy to forget you have inspiration and having a physical item can be very helpful and help the table overall

glad that you found some nice people to work with, and thanks for pointing out that you will use them and wouldn't throw useless things at us. Not that I was worried cause to me you've always seemed thoughtful about the impact you can have with this channel but thank you nonetheless

I have a resin printer at home for printing creatures and characters, i use a erasable grid to draw the maps and i use the filament printer at work (with my PLA) to print small things like tres, rock, and that kind of stuff

A note on music: get speakers. Especially those that help do a stereo effect. It helps a lot if you can use them instead of laptop speakers

for music, i went the hard route and made a bunch of several-hundred song playlists for bgm, fights, and tense
