Die Kassierer sind sogar noch schneller wenn die Mutter kurz was holen will und ihr Kind alleine an der Kasse lässt

Germany probably is an introvert's paradise 😂

Yea here in the Netherlands, even though we're between Britain and Germany, we're exactly like our eastern neighbours in this. Fast and efficient, pack your own bags and barely any talking. Its gone so bad that we have specific "klets-kassa's" (chit-chat-counters) in certain supermarktets. Mainly for lonely elderly to ask them about their day etc

As austrian i was not surprised by how fast the were at the checkout, we have that too. i was surprised that the cashier was silent. In austria you get 3 options. Either the cashier is suspisciously friendly and polite, or the cashier is rude and insulting you or the cashier is mumblng to themselves about their day

When Aldi came to Australia the checkout speed was insane. My local community has managed to get them to just calm the F down, and they are now just a little more chill. It took some community pressure though

Did anyone noticed his eyes sparkling when he looked at her talking? ✨️

before I moved to Spain, back still in my native Germany, I used to always get the sweats at checkout because the one thing you don´t want to do is hold up the line for guys in the queue behind you. There will be words, or more realistically NO WORDS but some meaningful glares which you can just feel boring into your back.

In Spain I get my bags packed, nobody gives me or anybody else a meaningful look but I still have to check myself and not be German when the cashier has a little chat with an elderly customer (other than myself). It is just so natural for me to become annoyed at the checkout if it doesn´t go at the fastest possible speed.

slowly, slowly getting better at not getting grumpy but some days are better than others.

My biggest shock in Sweden was how slowythe cashier were. I was like why is this an excersise in patience

Well, they have to be this fast, the lines are long people are waiting and opening another checkout would mean one less worker available for other tasks, which doesn't work when you're intentionally understaffed.

This is so relatable.

As a German I just "fall in line" at the checkout lmao. A brief "hello" and then it's all about efficiency. I usually as customer try to pack my bag as fast as possible, sometimes taking multiple items in one go, as if wanting to keep up or even surpass the cashier - only to smoothly transition to the payment method as the final price is shown and as I have packed my bags already, already holding out cash or card and saying it in mild advance to speed it all up :D

ngl, i was always confused why so many foreigners seem to have trouble with the cashiers, until i finally understood what the issue is: they are simply doing it wrong.
it never occurred to me, that they are trying to sort and place their items into their bags right there at the cash register. that's gonna take way too long and isn't what you're supposed to do anyways.
unless you're only buying a handfull of items, you're supposed to place the items the cashier hands you back into your cart, then pay, then move your cart to the designated packaging area, and only then take your time sorting and placing your items into your bag properly at the packaging area.
of course they are gonna struggle, if they try to do all the sorting and bagging right there at the cash register as soon as the cashier hands their items to them. that's not gonna work.
i was genuinely surprised the first time i realized how few people actually seem to understand how german cash registers work.

Well, about 25 years ago, Aldi cashiers were even faster when they "just" needed to type in number for each item. Nowadays, they have to pull all items over the ean scanner, and that takes a lot more time than the technique I described.
They've always mentioned the price even before you packed your stuff back in the cart. 😂
