Wonderful advice! I learned in college that the blue blazer is the cornerstone of any gentleman's wardrobe. That experience has served me well. Sport coats are fun, especially during the holidays. As far as blue blazers, I think Brooks Brothers is the standard. However, they are well over $600. A tip, last year I wanted to put my high school and university patch on two different blue blazers, an admitted vanity thing, and I wasn't going to spend $1300 doing it. Knowing my jacket size, I went on e-Bay and ordered two Brooks Brothers blue blazers. They were each less than $100. They arrived in excellent condition. Having my alma maters' crest put on the front pocket cost me next to nothing. For an added formal look, I puchased silk handkerchiefs in my school colors to put in my front pocket. Fun to wear to all my alumni events! You can do a lot without spending a ton of money.

100% accurate John, great vid (as always). To me, suit jackets should only ever be worn as a suit (mine are all plain solid colours), sports jackets are the best, blazers with metallic buttons are a certain no-no!

Great information, thank you for clearing up the confusion. I love the suggestion of dry cleaning the jacket and trousers together as it has not occurred to me that color may be effected. I did not consider how versatile a sport jacket can be with a little creativity. I also find when shopping in a men’s clothing store that misinformation is often provided with regards to blazers vs. sport jackets.

Glad to see that you understand what makes a good blazer, I'm older than 40 and I have my own style and have just started to wear a cravat again it was something that my late father wore in the 1960's, I loved your video about not wearing trainers, I will wear converse but only with either jeans or shorts. Keep it simple is a great adage. This is simple and to the point. I personally had just 2 sport jackets most of my adult life and have just purchased my first suit for a funeral (I was a pallbearer). I find the sport jacket 'suits' my needs for informal affairs.

I find a blazer by far the most versatile out of the three options. Looks great with a smart pair of chinos, good shoes and a decent formal shirt and tie for work and equally as impressive with a polo shirt and jeans at weekends. But my linen jacket is my favourite. Would be interested in hearing your views on linen and how to wear it.
