Build a Real Robot - Episode 12 - Project Update

Sorry for the gap in programming, I’m back today with an update on the DB1 Robot project and to announce something NEW here in the DroneBot Workshop.

Had a bit of a setback but I’m back in the workshop today to update you on the status of the DB1 Robot project.

Originally I wanted to have a forum for all DB1 builders and robotics enthusiasts to be able to exchange information, so there is a forum specifically dedicated to DB! And another one for all of your other robotics projects. As well, there are forums to discuss all aspects of DIY electronics - something for everyone!

The DB1 controller code is well underway, and in a few days I'll be putting it all up on GitHub. I’ll share the repository link in the next episode, as well as on the forum and in the newsletter.

In this episode, I go over a bit of the code, the MovePWM function. I’ll show you how the function works, and how to use optional parameters in an Arduino function.

And, of course, we’ll take a peek at the forum!

Again I apologize for not releasing a video for a few weeks, I also want to make you aware that during the summer I may miss the occasional one. But with the code on GitHub and a forum to exchange information we’ll still keep this project moving!

Next week we’ll start adding navigation sensors and wiring to the robot.

Hope to see you on the forum!

Bill

ENJOY the JAZZ concert Bill. You've absolutely earned it. I'm sure everyone here will back me up on this. You've just created an absolutely wonderful forum for us to be able to share with each other our knowledge and projects. And that task alone was no small potatoes. We all thank you for your hard work and creative efforts.

Take a well-deserved break and enjoy the Jazz Festival. We're all behind you! Don't you dare feel guilty about taking your well-deserved break. You have absolutely EARNED IT.

Awesome video, glad you are feeling better.
I have a suggestion when using the "OR" gate for ganging together many stop modes. I highly recommend you add LED's to the inputs of each "OR" gate and add labels so you will have a quick indicator of what or where the shut-down originated. Adding a couple bucks more in parts could save hours of troubleshooting in the case that it has a failure.

Great to have you back on the YouTube channel, Bill!
And I'm particularly looking forward to the publishing of code on github.

@9:25 it's not about Arduino IDE with "optional parameters" .. it's basic C language!
You have to declare functions and variables before its use in code.
It's just the Arduino IDE, who forgives a lot by allowing writing functions after the loop function..
In any other good IDE .. like VSCode with PlatformIO.. you would get instant error by pointing on that mistake.
In short: switch to VSCode to learn how to code.

Great videos. I don't know if anyone has asked you. If I may ask, why are your duplex outlets upside down? I have never seen outlets with the ground on top. Please explain it to me as maybe it may be something I want to pursue here in my home electrical system.
