The Chattahoochee BDR-X is a 350-mile loop featuring the best adventure & dual-sport riding in the north Georgia mountains. This unforgettable route combines a collection of graded forest roads, primitive two-track, and scenic backcountry pavement under the dense canopy of the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Quaint mountain towns dot the track including Ellijay, Dahlonega, Suches, and Helen, with abundant lodging and camping opportunities throughout. Riders will criss-cross the Appalachian Trail, tackle rugged climbs, carve twisty pavement, and splash through numerous creek crossings. Unique to the south, the Chattahoochee BDR-X can be ridden most of the year and is best between March and December, weather permitting.

The Chattahoochee BDR-X is presented by:
BMW Motorrad USA and Alpinestars.

About Backcountry Discovery Routes:
Backcountry Discovery Routes® (BDR®) is a non-profit organization that creates off-highway routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. We have introduced a new route with free GPS tracks for the community every year since 2010.

Our work includes rider education, safety campaigns and promoting responsible travel for motorcyclists traveling in the backcountry.

Our volunteer-powered organization works with agencies and land managers to keep trails and remote roads open for motorcycling.

Each route generates new tourism that delivers sustainable economic relief to less-advantaged rural communities. This creates local stakeholders who will help fight to keep access for dual-sport and adventure motorcycles in these incredible backcountry areas.

Great video and great ride. Retiring from the military and moving back CONUS to Florida. This will be the first big ride I make on my mighty adventurized DR650. Can’t wait!

Awesome that it includes Two Wheels of Suches and Sunrise Grocery. Always points to hit when I head to that area.

The South is under-represented in BDR's, and despite @XSE256 's protestations, I believe the majority of BDR riders are responsible and appreciate the land and the resources and the populations they ride through and near.
Just as hunting and fishing licenses are used to fund sustainability of our wildlife, the BDR likewise funds the lands along the BDR routes.
I'm glad I'm next door to this fantastic area, some of which I've actually ridden.

It looks like half these roads and stops are from the Smokey Mountain 500. Can't wait to try this route out!

Well, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
It gets hotter than a hoochie coochie
We laid rubber on the Georgia asphalt
We got a little crazy but we never got caught

I feel like I’ve been everywhere around those parts. Hope to learn some new roads! As soon as I come back from my MABDR next week I’m gonna take another week off and hit this!

connecting to the SM500, via the KAT, via the Dusty Buzzard, via the TAT, via the GOAT, via the MABDR/PA Wilds, via the NEBDR - East of the Mississippi ADV is not nothing!

what's the average size bike for one of these routes? Like, bigger GS?
I have a XT250 and wondering if the on-road sections might be too fast/ too much.
