In a previous video, actually, last year pa nga yata namin ito napublish, nadiscuss ni Yosh ‘yung mga mistakes na madalas nagagawa ng mga tourists kapag nagpa-plano ng trip sa Japan. Pero yung video na yun, naka-focus sa planning and budget. Doon, tinackle niya kung kailan ang ideal time to visit, paano pumili ng hotel, and mga train passes. So more on pre-trip preparations talaga yun.

This time naman, ang ise-share ko sa inyo ay mga faux pas or yung mga boo-boos na may kinalaman sa social etiquette. Marami sa mga ‘to ay hindi illegal. It’s highly unlikely na makukulong kayo if may ma-break kayong rule, pero alam nyo naman, kilala ang mga Japanese as the most polite people in the world. Very helpful sila kahit sa mga turista. Kaya naman, tayo as visitors, should be able to respect their customs, too.

I noticed while making this video that we tend to rest our chopsticks on our bowl kapag walang chopstick rest/holder. And I learned later on na it's also considered disrespectful. 😅 So that's one down na. We'll interview ulit some of our Japanese and expat friends din, but if you have ideas, pa-comment na lang.

When my friends and I went to Tokyo to visit the Imperial Palace we were required to register a day before, free naman entrance duon. When we got the entrance slip to get our pass for the following day they gave us a slip para maka enter sa registration area. We did not notice na may time indicated pala duon sa slip na prang 20 or 30 mins lang kami allowed sa area na yon. Nabigay sa amin yung entrance pass for the day after cguro less than 10mins lang. Nature called and I had my lady period so nagdaan muna kami ng friend ko sa comfort room, we took our time, we stayed there siguro for mga 15 mins almost 20 mins, nagantayan pa kami para sabay sabay na lalabas. So obviously beyond 30 mins na kami sa registration area. Paglabas namin nagulat kami may mga pulis na as in and they are questioning saan kami nagpunta in their language ah so di talaga nagkakaintindihan for 30-40 mins kami nanduon hindi kami pinapaalis kahit anong explain namin. Walang marunong mag english. Moral of the story follow the time indicated sa entrance slip. They are highly protective syempre Imperial Palace yun. Learn from our mistake 😂

Don't sit down on the ground, like on sidewalks or in front of convenience stores, especially when eating something. If you want to sit, always find a place with benches or a grassy area in a park. In Japan, sitting on the ground, especially in places like sidewalks or in front of convenience stores, is considered rude and lacking in manners.

Don't take pictures of Geishas, Maikos, etc. out in the street. if you have to do so, do it the most discreet way possible. but as much as you can, please don't.

Don't offer seats to elderlies and pregnant ladies. they get offended, is what I was told. if you see one while onboard a transpo, just stand up from your seat, walk away, and don't look back.
When entering someone's home, don't forget to position your footwear facing outwards.
Don't stick your chopsticks into your food. It looks like an incense offering for the dead.

Kahit naman sa Pilipinas, dapat tumayo at bumabad sa escalator sa KANAN! Leave the left side of the escalator open para sa mga nagmamadali!
Sa Japan, baligtad. Dapat tumayo sa Kaliwa.
This is because Japan is a Keep Left nation (tulad din ng Hong Kong at Britain).
While we, the Philippines is a Keep Right nation (tulad din ng America, China, France etc).
Based from where the driver side of the car is.
Tinturo ang Keep Right good etiquette sa school dito sa Pilipinas, lalo na sa La Salle.
