I had the same problem. I overheated the mug with a gas burner. The Teflon coating was then easily removed with steel wool.

Thanks for this, must have a go at mine. Never intended to buy a coated one knowing what it would be like, but I got a used mug, Osprey 58 pattern canteen, hexi stove with crusader ring, a Wildo Fold-a-cup and a brand new BCB black pouch all for £20 delivered so couldn't turn it down at that price!

I don't get the point of removing the coat? I'd just buy the stainless steel crusader cup instead.

I purchased a plain stainless steel one knowing a coated one was bad news.

If that’s the aluminium one you have just made that dangerous and should really not cook in there fella I was under the impression the coated ones were aluminium?
