Chalkboard paint behind a stove will kill the chalkboard effect in no time. Grease and chalk don't play well together. Agree with the her that the well-placed antique can really punch up a space and interest.

I rather like being able to close up my house, I have a large 50's ranch style house and when I go to work, I lock my dogs up in the kitchen, dinning, laundry room, works well, and 7 months a year, they can get out to the back yard, and my wool rugs are safe in the livingroom. Plus I don't want to sit in my living room and look at my kitchen sink, unless I just didn't use it, like I guess some of these people do

New is yuck, what is wrong with people making everything white, and black. This shows how tasteless we are its same like cars, cheap and ugly and just white and black. I like the olde styles more then these new crap styles.
