Positioning is the most important technique for shot stopping while distributuion and box control is probably the most important in general Rule #1 of goalkeeping: If the ball is in the box, it's your ball. Rule #2: if you don't think it's your ball, refer to rule #1. Shot stopping is the least a goalie will do in a game. Their job is to be a quarter-back of sorts, you tell teamates what to do and the majority of restarts starts with the goalie. we're the last line of defence and the beginning of the offence.

Now of course the basics are very important they are the base to builing your technique. But i have to say that standing in the ready position afraid of the ball is going to get you nowhere. The most important technique in my opinion has to be the mentality and the ability of wanting to commit. Many people see this as an easy task, but then they change up pretty fast when they step up on the field. I say the best way to train your mentality is by doing 1v1s because then you will need to look at the player constantly without flinching to be able to save the ball. If you think you have a better technique than the one i mentioned, be my guest and reply to this comment. I have been goalkeeping for only 2-3 years other ppl would probably know more than me
