Hey it's the return of my Jeep Wrangler YJ project! I have too many broken cars that are in desperate need of attention, so this one sat for almost a year. 🥴 A friend offered to give me this 1992 Wrangler for free last year, and the only progress that I made on it was a new set of tires! I've driven it around a bit but there are still quite a few things I need work on to make this a safe and reliable driver. Today I visit Sean from Sean's Auto Care and he'll take us through everything that is wrong with my free YJ project! Come join us!

I like how he calls the transfer case an “all wheel drive unit”

Your mechanic obviously isn't a jeep guy.
That radiator is copper and brass, not aluminum.
All 2.5s had an ac bracket, wether they had ac or not.
That "all wheel drive unit" is a transfer case. (Specifically its a 231)
Thats not a "trailing arm", its a track bar. I wouldn't rebuild it, I'd throw row it in the trash.
Toss the rear track bar in the scrap heap too.

That is a pretty cool Jeep.

Pressure wash everything really well Replace the radiator and valve cover gasket.
Flush the brakes and coolant. Drive it.
Keep an eye on everything and see what else pops up.

I am a JK owner. The YJ brings back fond memories. Back in '93 my dad bought a Sahara 4.0 with the manual transmission from the dealership and he daily drove that jeep for 26 years until he sold it! Only thing that needed replaced was the radiator and starter while he owned it. After he sold it, he purchased a TJ.

Ive had two YJ’s. They always need something, but always get you where you need to go. They’re also easy and generally enjoyable to work on especially with no rust. I actually loved the four cylinder, it’s torquey and fun. Enjoy it!

I like that mechanic. I wish mine took time to explain like he did

E3 spark ditch those immediately, it’ll run a lot better! And then flush the block with a citrus-based radiator cleaner, it’s cast iron and running 100% water will cause serious rusting internally and clog the radiator....that might be why the heater core was disconnected: it’s clogged up.

Wow, the front suspension on a YJ looks pretty much like the back...Solid axle and leaf springs and all!
Glad there wasn't anything too crazy wrong with this car. I bet most 1992 vehicles would have similar issues.

Definitely worthy of saving and sending to the next owner. Looking forward to seeing you wrench on it some.

The oil all over the transmission is probably from the rear main seal, common problem, easy fix.

Great video! Everything he showed you is diy, let’s see you get over to auto zone and make this happen!

Nice Jeep with square headlights, isn't it what MacGyver drove in the tv show? :)

If you don't do most of the work on your YJ...then it will squash you in the wallet ..{plus you lose the pride of ownership feel and all the fun)

That Jeep needs minimal, as far as the track bars toss them in the garbage where they belong...

You have bad valve stem seals or a bad head gasket. That’s oil build up on your spark plugs and all that blow by isn’t normal. Not sure if you figured that one out yet lol.

And just so you know...the slave cylinder is internal..87-93. When that goes..and they do, you have to drop the tranny. There is a mod to switch to external. It isn’t hard to do..do it!
