I did this exact same detail on my DIY addition. It was tricky but I actually framed by subfloor after the structure was in place, so I could insulate top down.

How do you have todo it in cold climates? Basement or slab foundations only?

My front entranceway was done exactly like this and even with a good insulation and a good job sealing it up it’s still cold in the winter so spend the extra money and get your foundation.

Would this be safe for a mud room / laundry room? It doesn’t happen everyday but we do get temperatures as low as -30 every few years so I’m wondering if it’s safe for water. .

How DIY friendly is this? Obviously I’d have help but I’m at the point no matter what contractor I hire and no matter what price range they fall in, or even recommendations I check I seem to always pay for crap work. I’m slowly learning the steps to do my projects on my own and not only am I learning new skills but I’m also finally getting the work done and to my standards (that I guess are too high?). Do I house addition to add a full master suite with a laundry room is my dream but I’m scared to drop $100k to make this a reality and it look like crap. We had a house fire two years ago and paid like $90k to have a room gutted and redone plus sand all the floors and re-stain them and let’s just say it’s all crap.

Gota get multiple quotes and look at their work. What i didnt do was go out and find new construction add ons . And ask for refs in process. A major addition is NOT for the DIYs. Too many variables too inteicate and time consuming especially for a working person. Ik os for a fact its stressful. You experience just every emotion thier is
