Turned out that I had to bring the cylinder head to a machine shop so they can we drill the valve guide out and put a new one in, they charge me $80 to change one of valve guides plus the valve Also water freeze plugs replaced checked the cylinder head for cracks and Warp. It was an awesome deal.

You need to measure the play on them and make sure they are within spec. the other "good one" looks bad to me as well.

My 7.3 is using oil . Smokes black when you first crank it like oil is on top of piston or something, at first a few weeks ago it would not smoke and not use oil one day the it may use 2 gallons the next . You never knew when it would use oil . Changed all injector seals and put a rebuilt turbo on it already sill the same thing. Now it uses oil parked not running overnight . It's got oil mixed with diesel in the fuel bowl . No diesel in crankcase though. I'm thinking valve guides now . Any ideas of what it might be ? Cranks good, no loss of power. I'm stumped.

Ok I'm going to be that guy if you already have the head off! Get the head trued and replace the valve guides and check the valves for damage by the machine shop cause their is one thing I hate is having to go back in to a After something else comes up because you didn't do the head ever thing down don't do a shitty job...or a half ass job check ever thing

Not trying to be "that guy" who starts a comment war but the exhaust valve is always bigger and the valve you show with lots of play is definitely not bigger...
