Eminem can rap, nobody can dispute that. He is my favourite rapper too. But we need to be honest, music is not "color blind, " music industry isn't. We don't have to be "racist, " but most of our favourite rapper growing up probably wouldn't be Eminem if he wasn't that blonde icon. He wouldn't be the God that he has become. Yeah, so many other white rappers couldn't do it, Eminem is special. But then again, rap didn't emerge as a popular genre, many black and white artists would rather stay underground anyway. Popularity alone doesn't make you better. But among those who did try to get famous, Eminem is hands down the best white rapper, and one of the best regardless of the genre. But his image is more universally appealing. Consumers of popular culture all around the world are mostly white. We can't deny that it helped him get as big as he did. There are tons of generational black artists in rap and jazz, but they are not the universal icons with their stans like Eminem is. Music industry had one black icon universally recognized, one singer every kid in distant country would recognize like Eminem, Madonna, etc, and that was Michael Jackson, and... he looked white. This is reality, I am not excluding myself, I probably like Eminem best because he is white, even if it is nothing conscious. Now some people may hesitate to rank him as high as he deserves, because he is white, that's another thing. But it did help him sell.
