It is time to try and get Narrowboat Alice Grace 600 feet above the sea to the summit of the Rochdale Canal, but there are so many obstacles in the way today and it looks like it is going to be an impossible challenge. Do we make it? Sit back, relax and enjoy. Take care 🌻🦋

I’ve never been so overjoyed as I was in this Vlog Vanessa my grandads farm was a stones throw from where you walked Heyward we were pennine farmers seeing this made me cry the sheer rugged countryside I walked as a little girl beautiful and isolated farming community there is the Heyward canal I’m so happy you loved it and the owl 🦉 was stunning and loved your guest on your boat how lovely for you and Zephyr xx 😘

Vanessa, how kind and wonderful of you and Zephyr to take care of Oscar. He is so little and precious. i wanted to cry when you said he fell into the canal. Poor baby! . I had a little one, a curly haired terrier mix., Woofy, He was a little bundle of pure love and devotion. ❤.

Lived in Huddersfield 1971 to 1973, then Stockport 1973 to 1976 before moving to Bristol.
The Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the Rochdale Canal were both derelict then. Only the Leeds and Liverpool Canal enabled boats to cross the Pennines then.
So good to see all three transcending canals functioning again!
Again you've brought back so many memories of waterway explorations of the past.
Getting through that temporarily dewatering pound near the Summit reminds me of similiar scenes on the Brecon and Abergavenny Canal and Monmouthshire Canal in the 1970's and early 1980's, having to resort to kayaks at times.
The Llanellen Embakment collapsed on the B and A dewatering the pound.
Significant repair work was done and the navigation restored.
As a consultant on the Monmouthshire Canal Project I was ceremoniously rowed along a restored section near Cwmbran by members of the justly proud workforce I was privileged to assist.
I went on to assist with the restoration of the Stourbridge Arm of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.
I was only 33 years old at the time.

Your vlogs really make me ‘feel’. We moved from West Yorkshire to North Yorkshire 4 years ago, and we lived very near to the canal. I do miss it, even though I live it here too. Thank you.
