Good overview. One bad info: dividends are paid out to you (not to Schwab), you then direct Schwab to reinvest which means you'll pay taxes (albeit at a lower "qualified" dividends rate, i.e. at LTCG rate).

Thanks so much for posting this, great tutorial. I talked to a financial planner from Fisher who told me that for my income level I'm better off using Charles Schwab and he recommended purchasing ETFs synched to the S&P 500; because that's what he personally does. I opened my account and was a little bit overwhelmed but your video is great! Thanks again!

i have used Schwab a for 2 years.... Your tutorial taught me things I did not know.... The settings to change the order of stocks and etf in terms of performance and then back to size of positions .... back and forth makes Schwab more useful.... New topic. Schwab has helped me place Limit Stop orders on stocks.... the Stop Limit orders got me out of the market in the March I waited and then bought back up 45 to 55 % in just 5 months.... so the thing I would like to say is Schwab as people willing to talk to you for over a half hour or more to make sure you know what you are doing. a

Informative video, thanks. If you are considering Schwab, I give them the highest praise for amazing customer service! I love being able to chat with someone via a small window while getting other stuff done. Other brokerages sometimes have terrible customer service. Some places only sell you their mutual funds, no reason to invest with those companies these days. Also, the Schwab "Street smart edge" software is free and brilliant! I absolutely love it, and wouldn't want to invest and research without it. So customizable, and I love how I type the ticker in once, and then that ticker will appear in several windows with the info I want about each stock. It looks complex, but it doesn't have to be.

Also, you should read about how the share price changes slightly when the dividend pays out. I used to think what you thought about timing my purchase of a dividend-paying stock, but it is far less of a factor than you think. I'm no expert, just trying to be helpful.

I've been using Schwab as my main brokerage for trading shares for almost a year now and I've loved it! No complaints. I actually opened my account last year right when they announced $0 commissions.

Schwab’s research and educational tools are first class. I have brokerage accounts with Schwab, M1, and Fidelity. I employ different strategies on each platform. I first became familiar with Schwab through my company’s 401(k) program. They’re the administrator. Their planning tools are also great to help you see how your money can grow and to project out various scenarios. I’m a big fan of Schwab.

Thank you! I signed up for Vanguard years ago to be an index investor. Switched to being a dividend growth investor and have stayed with Vanguard but wondered about Schwab all along. This is helpful. Much better.
