Change The WordPress Read More Link Text

Most blog themes have a link on the blog listings page that says something like Read More. Sometimes it says Continue, or Continue Reading. Either way, this tutorial will show two ways to change that text.

Can you change the read more text to listen now and some how make the add filter hook know when post is podcast? Via tag for example blogs should have read more but Podcast should have listen now?

Hi, how do you change the link url of the read more link button? I have converted a Muse website to Wordpress, i added a new blog page with posts currently, when i click on the read more link, it brings me to the homepage instead of the actual blog page.

Can Wordpress somehow leave the code untouched if a plugin or theme gets updated. Have to do this every other update. Unproductive.

Your method will work for some - I have no idea how many or how few - themes in Wordpress. BUT - and this is the but - in certain themes the complex file-system of linked php's and other stuff is different. So what to do?
If you buy a professional theme, you will be able to download it, so you can upload it manually on a server. You may not want to do that, since there are more automated ways to install themes, but you may want to keep it as a backup.
When you have this backup, you can use a search engine, a small program like grepWin, that I believe is freeware, that can search for free text inside all documents in a file system and give you the path and the name. It is extremely easy to use and very efficíent. In this way I found at least five documents NOT called functions.php containing the string 'Read more', and since I have a Danish website I want it to say 'LÆS' :-)
Then you can find the relevant files either from within Wordpress or by logging into the control panel of your webhost.
The first method may also be a problem, since Wordpress may have blocked the use of the Editor in order for silly amateurs like us not to mess with the theme. Here you have to search for the config.php, where it says, that 'prevent Editor' is 'true'. It should be 'false' - a rather backwards way of putting.
None of this is actually easy and it is not likely to go wrong if you follow the procedure.

So Mr. Learning Lab, I will give you thumbs up for your attempt to guide us for this problem, that in my opinion should be a lot more accessible i the user interface of Wordpress. I will have to give you a friendly thumbs down for not forseeing, that your method could be useless. Take care mate.
