Larian has proven they can create great games. They learn and improve with each game they make. Whatever they do next I will be *hesitantly* excited. This might be a good thing for them to not be tied down to a story they have already told. They are a creative team, let them create.

This is a very similar move Bioware made back in 2004 after releasing Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. After developing one of the best RPGs of a generation, Bioware declined LucasArt's offer to make a sequel, as they wanted to parlay their success by creating their own unique IP. That game being Mass Effect. Larian Studios was a popular developer among RPG enthusiasts, but BG3 has made them a household name. The entire gaming industry is eager to see what Larian develops next, regardless if it BG4, DOS3 or something completely different.

This is absolutely the right decision, the only reasonable decision if you’re paying attention. Wizard of the Coasts and Hasbro cannot be trusted, not after how wotc handled the entire OGL situation and also the instability where despite being THE ONLY part of Hasbro that’s making money for them, not even Wotc is safe from layoffs for dnd and magic the gathering stuff including the very ones who were cooperating with Larian to begin with!

The fact that BG3 is as good as it is without any alleged drama or development hell situations popping is a miracle as is; Why tempt fate any further?

Now they are widely respected and have won game of the year there is only one thing left to do. A live service looters shooter that's 6 hours long

One of the things I like most about Fromsoft is that they don't restrict themselves to just 1 or 2 IPs. They are always making new IPs.
Good to know Larian is also following the same footsteps. It's always refreshing to see a group of talented devs make something new & unique.

Sven said it would be 3 or 4 years to make their new RPG and that they are planning on doing EA again.

I mean since wizards owns the IP it means larion won't make the balder's gate . Not that there will not be a balder's gate 4.

I wish that at the very least they would release an SDK so the fans could create their own content. They could easily create the definitive way to play DnD online, and it would be a modding scene that would last for at least a decade

To me it doesn't matter if Baldur's Gate 4 will never happen.
What made the Baldur's Gate 3 so special was the studio who made it, not the IP.

I can't wait to see what Larian making up next.
