Sabine Devieilhe – Handel: Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno: 'Pure del cielo' & 'Tu del ciel'

Recorded with the Pygmalion ensemble and conductor Raphaël Pichon, the album explores the themes of great sorrow and great joy, expressed in sacred and secular arias and cantatas by these two composers. "This is possibly the most personal program I’ve recorded so far," says Sabine, "and I’ve been lucky enough to record it with the Pygmalion ensemble and my husband Raphaël Pichon. We really wanted to convey the idea of human emotion that at times goes beyond our understanding, and which creates music of extraordinary drama."

My goodness, I cannot stop crying. When such skilled musicians play music for the music and not for themselves, it is magical. This is not to detract from the pure brilliance and excellence of the playing. Not one player said "look at me" or "look at us" but played for us to enjoy. The slight rubato in the leader at 6:56 was just so musical
