Sister Hilda, Sister Francis and Violet put on a brief runway show to model some potential changes to their midwife uniforms. 

Season 10 of Call the Midwife takes place in 1966, a testing time for the midwives. But there’s excitement, too, as the women's rights movement intensifies. I love watching this show, just gives me a sense of peace from a simpler time. My mom spent summers in the 50s-70s in the UK and she says this show really brings her back to her youth. Just love I get a snapshot into how my mother lived back then as a kid.

I simply love this show, it is an amazing way to show the history of the NHS and how East London (and by extension, England) has changed over time. Keep it coming👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

We're getting very close to the time when the NHS cut off funding for the convents and therefore put all the nuns out of a job, so it'll be intresting to see if they stick to that historical fact, i believe they did that by 1968, the nurses would have been absorbed into the hospitals and nuns would loose medical liceneses. It was pretty horrible, alot of these nuns had been working as midwives all their adult life, just to loose that forcibly.

I love this show too. I’ve probably watched the whole 9 series at least 3 times. I’m glad the show is timely because modification of habits was happening in the Catholic Church as well. Unfortunately it didn’t help and many nuns when ordered rather than given a choice left for other orders that kept to tradition. A lot of people want nuns to wear a habit that reflects their chosen vocation. I hope they reflect this sentiment because it is realistic. Nevertheless I still love the show.

I might be wrong but I think these are new habits for the nuns, not uniforms for the midwives. I know the Catholic church updated their habits around this time, I'm not sure if the Anglican church did too.

I already previewed episode 2 on iTunes. Sadly these new uniforms were only worn on this one episode after all the measuring and fitting . They look more like a Halloween costume than a regular uniform . They do not wear these for the rest of the season . I think this is just one too many B plots in the episodes that weren’t continued . In season 5 when the other midwives got new uniforms that’s what they wore from then until now .

I wish the newer seasons were on Netflix or Hulu. I just keep watching the same first several seasons over and over. 🙄 I can prob quote each line they say by now. If anyone knows how I can see the newest seasons please please let me know!

I hate this show. The nurses are the heroes, the mothers are the passive, helpless "victims" depending on the expertise of the nurses and nuns. The scrpt writers apparently know little about childbirth-a mother prepared for natural childbirth doesn't need to be told to "push". Her body initiates the pushes and the mother has the urge to push when the time comes. They give no credit to mothers in childbirth-the mothers are frantic and ignorant, poor and in need of the calm, controlled "experts"-nurses who have only a two-year degree, in most cases, and probably less in the time period in which the show is set.
