I was a teacher (retired now). Over one weekend, I had gotten sick and my intestinal tract was severely inflamed and swollen. I went to the emergency room on Sunday afternoon and was scheduled for an emergency endoscopy. I warned my principal and chief administrator that this was occurring and that I wouldn’t be in for the next two days. I had already lined up a substitute teacher and filled them in on everything.
Both administrators had the gall to ask me to put off the procedure until our next school vacation (Spring Break), which was 6 weeks away. I politely declined that and told them that I would have a doctor’s note for them when I got back. Doctor over heard that conversation and wrote me a note for 2 weeks off. He wasn’t very happy with them.

I'll never forget, one day I was feeling really sick mid-day, and told my boss I was leaving early, and started down the hall. He ran ahead of me, blocking my way, telling me I needed to stay. I asked him to move out of my way. He said, "You can't leave until your shift is over or you find someone to come in and replace you." I threw up all over him. He tried to jump back, but I got his pants and shoes. He was furious. I said " I told you I was sick, and to get out of my way. You physically prevented me from getting to the bathroom in time. Your fault". The entire office was laughing at him.

"You need to submit your overtime request to me 2 weeks in advance so that I can work in around my schedule" and see how they react to that retort.

Pro tip: If you call in sick for a few days and your boss demands you get a doctors note to "verify" your illness. When you go to the doc for the note, ask for ADDITIONAL days off to recover and then tell your boss you have to stay out LONGER per the doc and thank him for telling you to see the doc.

I never ASK to be out sick, or go to the doctor. I tell them I will not be working.

I found out last week that our general manager has had blood poisoning, liver issues, a concussion, and intestinal blockage. She still went to work and was late a few times because of it. The boss has thought about replacing her.

I may be her replacement. But, I don’t want to work under a boss like that.

It is high time that employers figure out they can't screw with people anymore. We need half a day off to deal with something and you say no? We will remember that and it will bite you back 3 times as hard.

This happened to me. They demanded that I come in. I did, I was very sick. I looked like death warmed over. They sent me home 2 hours later but almost *everyone* I worked with was sick the next day and for the rest of the week.

I started having an ocular migraine while working this morning. I phoned my manager to say what was happening. Immediately i was told to stop working and put the job back into the list and close the focs i was working on. Then i was told to go and do what i need to do, be safe and they would call me on the hour for a welfare check. If i needed sick leave they would take care of it ASAP. I was fine after two hours and was back at my work, only at my insistence and only after I'd eaten the lunch my manager had organised to be delivered. Otherwise they would have my VPN disabled. They are strict with sick policy as per the law and their enhanced rules, we are valued and our health is very important.

Veronica's boss has the most condescending passive-aggressive voice I've ever heard.

I worked for a woman who told me I'd taken off too much sick time with migraines. Then I come in sick with bronchitis and my co-workers had to go to her and say let her go or we'll all get sick.

I'm addicted to the way the manager says "ok" when it's so very clearly NOT okay with her🤣

I'm a manager of a small team and I definitely subscribe to the "one hand washes the other" attitude. Sometimes *I* need time off on short notice, and because I treat my team right, they are always willing to step up and cover for my absence. It's a two-way street.

I DO NOT ask to be out sick. I let them know I’m not coming. And if I ask for time off and get denied, I do just like V does… not happening!!

I had an employer say to me. I need you to start at 7.30 am and work until 7pm on Thursday.
I was on 3 weeks of afternoon shifts and 1 week of nights and when I finally had a day shift he would ask me to stay until 7pm in the one week I wanted to be with my family.
This one week I had enough! he gave me a written warning for dropping off the wrong paper to a printing press. We had 2 kinds that looked the same and they didn't put forestry on the pick slip so I delivered Non forestry. it was wrong he gave me a written warning and said don't forget you are on until 7pm. I said no worries he left at 4pm and I followed him out of the gate he said where are you going I said to get food. I just didn't say it was at my house!
The next day he asked why I didn't work until 7 they needed me. I said I was so stressed over my warning i couldn't possibly stay. It was a good night being home with my family.

I love Veronica. My managers are scared to talk to me. I like it that way. I’m the only one here that tells them no. I do my job. That’s it. I don’t want a promotion. I don’t want to move up. Im not taking one for the team. I do my job extremely well, and I go home. I actually had one boss tell me I had to do my part like everyone else. I am currently covering 3 people’s shift. Ok. I will work like everyone else. The second day a different manager asked why I’ve slowed down. I told him what happened. He apologized and said he would keep her away from me from now on. They are so screwed when I quit. Luckily one or two know it.

Once I called in early sick because I had a bad cold. Not 5 mins later my then supervisor calls me and says I have to go in because he needs the day off. Being the naive person I was, I let him make me go into work. And everyone was like "didn't you call in sick" mind you I'm hacking up a lung and reply "yes but my supervisor told me he needed the time off." Grrrr this was when I was afraid of losing my job cause I was still new. Now I realize I should have just told him to stuff it. 😅
