Sony's entry into the console market wasn't an easy one and after being rejected by all other game companies Sony decided to go it alone and create their own game console to compete. It was a long shot at the time, but what Sony ended up doing was creating a road map to success for generations to come. This is how the PlayStation went from an unknown to absolutely dominating the 90s.

17:02 It's not just nostalgia. This industry has never been so dry, bare, repulsive, predatory, and downright boring, than it is now.

Graphics are far from everything, and these days, the "wow factor" of graphics, is all but gone. Graphics hardly mean anything, particularly when some guy in his basement, can make something that "looks" great, using some pre-made graphics/game engine and assets. ie. UE4 and the likes.

Nah, it's not just nostalgia. 85-05, and likely even more so particularly during 95-05, is the most creative, free, and positively explosive, the gaming industry has ever been, and likely ever will be.

As someone who's been programming stuff for the console with the official development tools and even made an SDK from scratch for the console, I can say the PS1 was indeed a fairly simple console to develop for compared to the other systems at the time once you get the hang of how the hardware works even under bare metal to some degree. I even got 3D working in my SDK from scratch project pretty quickly once I figured out how to get graphics working.

You got a few things wrong with the GPU part in that the GTE is called the Geometry Transformation Engine and its actually housed inside the CPU as a coprocessor and not the GPU. This is also the reason why the console has affine texture warping and depth sorting issues as the GPU is only capable of drawing in 2D and that all the 3D stuff is done on the CPU in conjunction with the GTE. You also forgot to put the ribbon cable back underneath the plastic bit that holds the power cable when putting the console back together.

Despite the errors, still a good video nonetheless.

Spawn is using megaman X 4 music 👍 that already tells you it's a good video.

I like the format, very informative, I like the way you use the clips and the the way you took apart the PS1 and explained everything that made the PS1 is brilliant. Please continue to use this method

Been waiting for this TechWave for a while! Glad to learn more about the PS1 and stuff I didn't know before!

I think a lot of what made it good as well was that it could play music CD’s which at the time was really good instead of buying a hi fi system same with the PS2 being a lot cheaper than a lot of DVD players at the time.

I made the jump from a Sega master system to a Sony Playstation, I occasionally played the odd game on MS-DOS but yeh it was a golden era for gaming, thanks for the awesome video!

Imagine if N64 was using CD also. It was technically the most powerful of the generation. But was held back horribly due to the cartridge.

I owned a PS1 and N64, both were great systems, in my opinion.

My first game was WCW vs The World. Got it for my 5th grade graduation. Game day 98 and WWE Attitude were my most played games.
