These grow in southern California everywhere. They can make it in zone 9B maybe. Malaga is way beyond this zone so it shouldn't be too surprising to find them there. Even if gets too cold (-3 C) the mature trees will drop the leaves and still make it thru. It's a really tough plant it's really hard to kill. In really wet tropical areas, they can become real nonsense (the more wild types) borderline obnoxious weed
