WE ALWAYS ABSORBE THE INCREASE. NO COMPANY, LET ALONE INVESTORS WILL TAKE THE HIT.

Great straightforward breakdown. I get the automation thing, I just fear we're gonna have a hard time keeping up with other countries
Ports if we don't continue to advance

I happen to be involved very heavily in this situation. And no one has gave us anything, and we went back to work. Afflation is already and progress. Everything went up 3 times per container, and we never got paid one penny. These people are getting filthy rich off of us. We just want our share and we can't even get that scratch is alling citizens get, but it's you that pay the high cost that makes them billionaires. There's no reason for these high costs at all

They deserve the outcome of their vote. They will eventually be happy and own nothing.

No point in protecting jobs for jobs sake, if a function can be replaced by technology it should, no matter how unfortunate that is for the impacted workers.
Edit: not to say there aren’t other solutions, perhaps the government could levy companies to provide retraining when industry-wide layoffs occur (just an example), but holding on to obsolete jobs helps no one.

Union boss:“This job is very dangerous and men get hurt and die all the time”
Companies: “ok then we will automate as much as possible and we can reduce injuries and deaths”
Union boss: “no, not like that”

It's absolutely absurd to me that they were/are striking because they don't want their jobs automated but, "oh, by the way, instead of saving money by replacing me, i want a huge raise and a guarentee that you will have to keep me here paying my increased wage".
Does no one see how crazy that is?

They need to get paid more than the 4$ increase.

We need more skilled labor in the workforce, to fix the AI that will be replacing these grunts

Sorry, but automation is the future. Dock workers can't put us all behind decades because they want to delay automation a few years.

To hell with the union dock workers and their strike. Fully automate it. Guess they should have adapted to the situation instead of throwing a childish tantrum.
Most dock workers make north of a 100k a year, and that is on the low end. Before you feel bad for them, understand that they caused their own problems and now are crying about the repercussions like little babies.

Greed and ignorance always battles the future. An inability to adapt to the times is a sign of a lack of value.

Seems like they are all gonna get replaced by technology haha

I'm on the west coast. We have automated yards, and they are not efficient at all because when they fully run it.
It moves 3 times slower than conventional. But now they can't even fully run it because the city told them they are draining too much energy from the grid, and it caused rolling blackouts. And?
Because of automation, they can not have safety checks for the trackers and have constantly damaged or even destroyed their trucks.
Adapting to technology means making the work more. Their automation only causes more delays and more injuries.

So yes, go automation if you want the same delays as covid without the illness.

So many are so jealous of ppl that have banded together to stop corporate greed from making every penny. It's hilarious. Ppl always bow to lick the boots of their corporate masters... except the unions!!! Go, union guys!!!! Amazing what you are doing!!!

Honestly people need to adapt to the times... if you've been sleeping on learning new skills... well... the world is going to leave you behind because this world is moving forward and if your standing still... your screwed. Adapt to the times people!
