Lee Trevino is a legendary golfer known for his incredible skills on the course and his expertise in fixing common golfing problems. And today, I'm lucky enough to have him help me tackle one of the most frustrating issues in golf: the slice.
So, what is a slice, exactly? Well, it's a shot that curves away from the player, often resulting in a loss of accuracy and distance.
For me, it's been a consistent issue that's not only affected my score but also my overall enjoyment of the game. I'm sure I'm not alone in this struggle. Many golfers out there can relate to the frustration of hitting a beautiful drive, only to watch it veer off into the rough or out of bounds.
The slice is particularly problematic because it's often difficult to identify the root cause. Is it a problem with my grip? My stance? My swing mechanics? The truth is, it could be any of these things, or a combination of them. But the good news is that with the right approach, it is possible to correct a slice and start hitting more consistent, accurate shots.
One of the most common causes of a slice is an open clubface at impact. This means that the face of the club is pointing slightly to the right of the target at the moment it hits the ball, causing it to spin away from the player.
Another common issue is a swing path that's too outside-in, which can also cause the clubface to close too quickly and send the ball slicing away.
Lee Trevino has a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to fixing common golfing problems, and today, he's going to share some of his insights with me on how to address these issues and start hitting more consistent shots.
The most pivotal moment comes when Lee Trevino demonstrates a specific drill that's designed to help correct a slice. He has me stand with my feet together, holding the club with both hands, and then swing the club back and forth, keeping it parallel to the ground.
This drill helps me develop a more consistent swing path and prevents the clubface from closing too quickly.
