"There's an insurance term that a lot of people that I meet with, a lot of clients that I have, are not familiar with. So I thought I'd just take a moment to share what that means. The term is med pay or medical payments coverage. In everybody's auto insurance policy you can get a declaration page that shows you exactly what coverages you have, how much money they'll pay for this, this, and this type of damage or claim. One of the things that is an option on auto insurance policies is medical payments coverage, or med pay.
What that is it's money that your auto insurance company will pay you or your doctor to get treatment, whether or not the accident was your fault. So if you get in an accident and you get hurt, let's say you need to go see a chiropractor and it's not covered by your health insurance, or let's say it's physical therapy or acupuncture or whatever. Rather than have to pay out of pocket, your auto insurance company will pay that bill for you. There's varying levels of coverage within that. You can get $2,000 or $5,000 or much more, but that's something that's very helpful to have on your auto insurance policy. So check your declarations page. If you don't see that, call your insurance company, it's very helpful to add on."
