Clear Linux for a week! Did it work?

Показать описание
Clear Linux is a distro project sponsored by Intel. This distro is designed for DevOps, Developers, and Containers. I test this out as someone who focuses on media production, general browser use, and light gaming.

Why is Clear Linux so fast?
"Clear additionally makes use of GCC Function Multi-Versioning (FMV) for optimizing its binaries to use the fastest code path depending upon the CPU detected at run-time among other compiler/tooling optimizations."

I also ran into the video codecs problem. After trying multiple solutions that didn't work consistently, I gave up on obsessing about fixing it on the OS level and just removed Firefox with swupd as a system package and installed Firefox as a flatpak. Everything works now!

this would be fun to make a full build with INTEL CPU, INTEL ARC GPU and this Clear Linux, with the Case and RGB color scheme of white and light blues...

Brandon your videos are always bright with colorful insights on different Linux Distros. I Always take something new away from your videos as I'm really A beginner in to Linux and have enjoyed the likes of zorin os, pop os, Arch and even Windowsfx. Just like to take the time to really say thank you and keep up the awesome work

I have an amd machine with 14 gigs of memory and tried clear linux on it earlier tonight. I also require a screen reader since being totally blind for this whole life. Apparently no screen reader on the live-desktop iso and amixer set Master 100% unmute;alsactl tore;aplay produced no sound from 3.5MM connected speakers. Normally when people like me find a desktop screen reader it comes on with one of three commands. alt-super-s, alt-f2 orca <enter>, or alt-f2 screen-reader <enter> sometimes espeak espeak-synth=soft or espeak espeak.synth=soft brings up a console screen reader as a boot parameter. You might have s or speakup as a boot parameter or a long time ago with ubuntu control-s to bring up a desktop screen reader I have to try that one since I haven't thrown the coaster out yet. One linux version did control-alt-o to bring up a screen reader. Finally fenrir start may bring a screen reader up. So far, this hasn't yet worked.

The reason gaming works so well is because the operating systems purpose is to be extremely performant. Intel designed Clear Linux as a workhorse OS for enterprise grade server solutions.

/var and /proc, was how we moved images from one machine to another back in the day. Some files in /etc were modified to make configuration easier.

The choice of name is wrong. It shouldn't be Clear Linux but "Crazy Fast Linux" I used it for a very long time. It's rock stable. Alert:: There is no etc folder.

Thanks for test driving and reviewing this os. My curiosity has been answered and I don't have to try it. You've got a great channel. 🙂👍

I liked how you precise describe all distribution slowly talking, without background music to better hearing what you saying. Your videos always with all details review linux distribution or what next after install "linux distribution". Your videos also have high quality video format and audio.

Great video, I didn't know about this distro and I think I will try it out as soon I'll be learning how to use Docker.

I swear you are somehow reading my mind. I literally just made a live USB to check this out on an slightly older XPS laptop I inherited over the holidays.

Its whole purpose is to test and deploy extremely efficient Linux apps for Intel servers, but it's very cool you can almost run it as a daily driver.

But, honestly, if you want to try good desktop-oriented desktop you should review the new Cutefish OS, Zorin OS, Deepin OS and elementary OS which you have already covered. Linux Mint is a classic but yeah, that one too

Can you run some benchmarks for gaming. I'd love to see them numbers.

When I last installed Clear (over a year ago), I didn't have any problem installing and using Firefox and several other "typical" Linux application installations.

Nice video dear TechHut, as usual! Personally, i think people who comes from Windows (that's not the topic of the video of course) like me, they will be in paradise with Mint: everything works out of the box, and most of time you don't have to touch the Terminal once. That's exactly (always in my opinion) where devs from different distributions have to focus a little bit more, because a lot of users don't wanna mess with the Terminal and don't wanna put efforts to learn it, simple because they don't and wanna focus only on productions. It's true Terminal is a crucial part of every Linux distro, and nothing can mess-up if you operations from there, where GUI sometimes can break stuffs. That's my personal experience, i wanna share with you all guys.
Keep it up dear, awesome videos! /thumbsup

I'm going to delete my etc folder to find out what will happen. On a VM, of course. Because it's going to be a beautiful disaster.
