Uncovering The Secrets Of A Forgotten Kingdom Through Ancient Artefacts

History Hit’s Tristan Hughes returns to the British Museum to get a special look at items from their upcoming touring exhibition Ancient Sudan: enduring heritage, an exploration into the Kushite Kingdom, a long lost civilisation that flourished in Sudan nearly 3,000 years ago.

For over 1,200 years from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD, the Kingdom of Kush flourished and at its height was one of the largest empires in the ancient world, ruling from the Blue Nile to the Levant.

This upcoming exhibition will examine this ancient culture's skilled craftsmanship, distinct religious beliefs, and the important role of women, as well as exploring the rich culture of modern Sudan. The severed head should be talked about more. There was no vaugness there. The head was buried under temple steps so the Kushites could walk over August's head forever.

The statue's head makes sense. It's because also the egyptians used to paint their enemies on boxes in front of the throne in order to step on them everytime the sit on the throne. It was probably a culture shared with the Kushites. Remember, we have Nubians visirs in Egypt since the 8th dynasty. A mummy of one of them was found years ago. So the idea that they buried the head there to have the people that go into the temple stepping on it makes sense.

Remember, the Egypt started in the Upper egypt, in the border with Nubia. It's not impossible that both civilizations had commun gods since the beginning of their history. Plus, a lot of egypt myths and origins of their gods happens in the region of Nubia.

Thankfully this amazing object has been kept safe and secure for generations to study - because Britain takes history seriously.
I imagine that when Sudan becomes a safe Country - and precious resources are spent to provide appropriate museum space, it'll be handed back.

Sudan is Nubia... the original patriarchy that linked up with the one from the lower (northern) Nile kingdom and gave rise to Egypt... I think. 😂

Interesting it was the Cushites defacing (literally removing faces) from their statues. That's considered a bit genocidal against a belief system, lineage, identity, etc. Possibly also a sign of othering and hate... violence. The fact they took a Roman trophy means it probably went both ways.
