I've shot deer with both calibers this year. The internal damage was bigger with the 6.5 Creedmoor. But the 270 had more recoil and bigger hole on the exit side. But at the end of the day. No matter which caliber you shoot. Shoot the caliber your most comfortable with. Dead deer is dead deer. Thanks for the video. Your awesome bro.

I shoot multiple calibers and deer hunt with many of them. While the 6.5CM is indeed a nice round, I still prefer the .270win in a direct showdown. Strangely, this past gun deer season, you couldn't find either one on a shelf so .308 became the most popular choice. I watched guys buy new rifles simply over ammunition availability. Even .30-06 became scarce! Fortunately, the shortages didn't affect me, but I think, ultimately, the best rounds to have are the ones manufacturers assemble and compete with. A gun without ammo serves no purpose. In general, the .270win is still greater in availability, it really doesn't suffer in performance, and the recoil argument is marginal if you have half a brain, between load options, updated recoil pads, suppressors/muzzle brakes, and so on. I haven't found any advantage in acquiring a 6.5CM. I have learned that sometimes less is better, so I've given it a try, but I haven't found anything in my deer woods that has made me feel like the 6.5CM is the better tool. Deer still die, but not any faster. Shock damage is equal. For myself, the .270win will keep its place at the deer cabin.

Being a 7mm Remington magnum guy, shooting a 270 is a piece of cake 🎂 it doesn't kick like mule, so the 270 got this one hands down.

270 Winchester all day long. Great all around cartridge.

Love it!! I have rifles in 26 calibers (too many mouths to feed, I know). You ask me to go on a deer/ elk/ antelope hunt tomorrow and I'll grab my .270 every time. From yotes to elk I've done with .270. You nailed the 6.5 CM shooter to the T!

Thanks for the video and information. I am old fashion and would stick with the 270 over the 6.5. For my hunting use.

Great vid WTH!!!! I bought my.270 in 1972. Shot everything from prairie dogs, deer, antelope and bears with it. A few years ago I bought a TC Compass 6.5 cr, I love it, shot a few deer with it, but when I’m’ serious I bring out the old M70 270.

(Speaking AS one, for many years)
Any western, old school, actual cowboy/rancher/farmer or, anyone regularly hunting *on* "the devide" or west thereof (and a few, wide open places east but, particularly west) has *7, * "count'em, " seven things in his life he'd never change (wives got "reloaded" all the time 😉) and, in no particular order of preference...
1. His hat
2. His favorite pair/brand of boots
3. His horse
4. His dog
5. His (usually old) truck
And, last but *not* least by "a long shot..." His .270 and .30-06 rifles (flavors may vary).
Depending upon locale and game/ pests, the .270 and .243 may be interchanged as determined by "the need for speed" but, the .270 is the more popular, by far.
With those two calibers, the .270 often being lighter and capable of faster, "lighter" shooting loads than the .30-06 (or, in a pinch and depending upon the need for just one rifle in a saddle scabbard in the Idaho/Montana/Wyoming mtns., just the .30-06 if you reeeally push the loading envelopes) can cover anything from a prairie dog to a moose/brown bear and at ranges from 50 to 500 yds.
Tried and true, sometimes the flashier, sleeker, newer "trucks and bullets" might get the glory (and the younger, dumber girls) but, they just can't replace that old, familiar, ever so loyal and dependable friend.
It's true that the 6.5 "whatever" has become the new darling of a number of long range target shooters (over a .30-06/.308) but... The rational, "real life" hunting shots taken with "the old standbys" fall *well* within the range of the .270/.30-06 and the wide variety of readily available ammo for those old, war horses in any nook and crook of those back woods supply/hardware/outfitter stores makes them viable choices, still to this day.
Thanks for this video and the memories of frosty, Montana mountain mornings...
Oh, yeah, the black and white checkered shoes are "Vans." 😉
"The old guy has spoken." Any trolls or other arguments about why my Belgian Browning .30-06 or .270 rifles suck just "don't float" and will fall upon deaf ears.

The first nice deer rifle I ever bought was a Winchester model 70 in 270 in the early 80s. Used it for close to twenty years before I changed over to a 308 which I still hunt with today. I’m almost 60 years old never owned a pair of skinny jeans, I wear Lowa orSalomon boot. My 1911s stay in the safe with the 270. Been carrying Glocks for twenty plus years(now with a rmr). I have two 6.5 creedmoors that I would feel perfectly comfortable deer hunting with. 270or 6.5 make excellent deer rifles no reason to suggest other wise. I would never sell or buy firearm because of something I saw on yt.

Everything falls down with my 270. Been very happy with 140gr Barnes here in Alaska. 100 years and still one the most popular calibers in North America and used widely all over the world.

Old Guy here. Glad I have the 270. I have not bought into the newer calibers. They are more expensive and harder to find. Thanks for this Video.

I deer hunt with the creedmoor because it kicks less than .270, and it’s quieter. The .243 works just fine for deer, so obviously anything bigger would work just fine

I'm debating a rifle for my kiddos to get in the woods with me... 6.5 and .270 was the debate and I think I know where to go now thanks!

The creedmore shines with higher BC bullets. It has a higher twist rate and can handle the longer bullets where the 270 is limited. I don’t have either but I do have a 280 rem which I think is superior to both.

I agree whole heartedly. The 270 is a far more versatile caliber. The availability of ammo speaks for itself. The flatter trajectory and the harder hitting power.
Jack OConnor, rest his soul, proved that the 270 winchester can effectively take deer, elk, moose, sheep and goats. He also used big calibers like the 338 win mag, the 375 H&H, and the 300 H&H.
So he wasnt an advocate of standard rounds, he used it all, even the 416 Rigby in Africa.
Jack was using rifles and hand loads from the 1940s to the late 1960s
The rifles weren't as accurate and the selection of bullets wasnt there in those days.He made a point that with proper bullets and good bullet placement that any big game animal in North America and quite a few in Africa would die just as quick.

My wife got a 270 years ago. When the crud more came out I did a comparison. You can hand load some sweet loads in either. 130-150 gr for either works great. I prefer the 270. I was always too hippie to be a real good cowboy but I’m a whole lot more country redneck and make a terrible hippie. “Better leave this long haired country boy alone!” Ha! My freak flag is flying down underneath my chin but the sentiment applies!

270 all day, but I wear cowboy boots, belt buckle and a high tight hair cut and yes I'm 55 🤠

I like both of them. My argument for 6.5 is less recoil and more widely available on top of the wind drift. But that being said iv always loved 270 before 6.5 was even popular

Enjoyed the video. Looks like the 270 is better which I have but the 6.5 is no slouch.

I have always been a big fan of the 270 win. Never bought into the hype of the 6.5 however I would not say I wouldn't own one. But the 270's rep is far and away time tested and aproved over decades . I have owned 3 270's and wished I had had never sold any of them . Hard to argue decades of success and availability. There are several of the old school cals such as 308win, 30-06 spring, 270 win, 7mm mag, 300 win mag etc .... that I would choose over the new stuff.
