Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are coming together to support new legislation that would help service members suffering after exposure to toxic burn pits. Kris Van Cleave speaks with a woman whose husband was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer about how this legislation could have impacted their lives.

Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs.

Wouldn't even just inhaling burning plastic fumes cause cancer, let alone with trash inside the plastic trash bags?

Didn't we go through this in the 90s...? So many vets involved in desert storm got cancer from this exact practice. Why are our armed forces still allowing this?

Thyroid cancer and skin conditions, but no Line Of Duty, so it's not considered "service related". I am not male, so I've been turned away from so many organizations. Now, it's just a waiting game until they hear me out.

Armed forces should be mandatory given free health care, they put their life on the line so the people in the country can continue to live another day peacefully away from terror or harmful war events.

My Husband was in Iraq for a year in 2006 with General Dynamics & the US Army, and died of brain cancer in 2015. VA told us it was a low grade glioma. After going to UCSD for a second opinion, they urged the VA to do a biopsy. It was stage 4 glioblastoma, and he died weeks later. We had to start a gofundme to survive. No disability rating. No caregiver help. Nothing.

I deal with this every day. My Veterans are so sick. Young, beautiful, people, who gave everything for our country, and as they die slowly, and spend everything they have on lawyers, the die while the VA pays games with their documents.

It’s just a trash system You have to go to VA doctors at VA hospitals. Hopefully you live close to one. Your primary care physician is going to change every year. Oh yeah, if you have a heart attack you may have to take the next two or three years fighting with the VA to cover the cost of ambulance fees and hospital fees and from a non-VA hospital to a VA hospital because you were dying!
