How do you pronounce the 'pre' in 'presentation'?

For context, I’m from Eastern Colorado, and these high schoolers are from a rural Texas community. My theory is that it may be related to the pin-pen merger, but that doesn't fully explain it.

You are correct. It mostly does have a lot of things to do with regional dialects. 👍 Same thing with the word “economics” the first vowel being pronounced /i/ or /ɛ/, like with “presentation.”
