What happens if they have access to money but doesn't pay bills, especially their bills. ??

I'll admit, I am one of those that doesn't give his girlfriend access to my finances. She has her own part time job and pays her own bills. Not including food for the house. Truth is I wish we could combine accounts, however the lack of discipline with finances scares me. We've had discussions many times to try to get on the same page. After 4 years I gave up trying to change it. No matter the conversation, the discipline never changed. We've kept things separate and it's the only way arguments are avoided

There are three sides to every story. Your side, their side, and the truth.

There are plenty of women who coin everything as “financial abuse” rather than examining their spending habits and (in some cases) the destruction it causes to the finances.

It’s a LOT easier to spend money you didn’t earn.
