Lavern Baker- Saved

Some sources say this was released in 1960, others 1961. It is a great track written by Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller(who also wrote Hounddog for Big Mama Thornton, the one that Elvis covered later). Great gospel scorcher.

My dad turned me on to this when I was like 11 or 12. I played this thing all the time. "Lie and cheat and step on people's feet" cracked me up.

I used hear this on the oldies station in the 80s. I didn't appreciate the song back then, but I love it now!

Lavern Baker was 1 of my favorite singers, from back in the day ... A few years ago my bro' went on a mission for me & got me everything he could find reissued on CD. I still have 1 of her albums with Lot's And Lot's Of Love which is my fave single...God bless her

Laverne Baker back to her gospel roots.  Debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 the week of April 16, 1961, peaking at # 37 during its 7-week run.  It's very likely that it was recorded in late 1960, at the session when she did "Bumble Bee".

This song used to be advertised on t.v. for sale as part of a collection, in the early 70's. They had actors to lip synch while acting out the song. I used to love that commercial.
