6:31 — That Mario Metroidvania idea sounds neat. I wonder if the implementation would end up feeling sort of MegaMan-like with all of Mario's different suits being individual powers rather than components.

When I was a 8 year old kid I wrote a long long letter to Nintendo about my vision for a Mario Metroidvania game. So I am all on board with this.

Technically, Yoshi's Island was Super Mario Bros. 5, at least in the Mario devs' eyes at the time, as that's the title it had in development, since in that massive 2020 Nintendo Gigaleak there was an early build of Yoshi's Island that was subtitled "Super Mario Bros. 5" instead of "Super Mario World 2." This also suggests that, contrary to the idea I've seen that the game was only titled "Super Mario World 2" to boost sales, it seems it was the genuine intention of the devs for Yoshi's Island to be the next main 2D Mario game, because otherwise why would they title it "Super Mario Bros. 5" if the final release version of Super Mario World didn't even have the "Super Mario Bros. 4" subtitle in the game? (Yes I know it's still on the Japanese boxart for SMW but that's it I'm pretty sure). Would be a pretty odd development title choice unless the game was actually supposed to be the 5th main console SMB game from the start.

Honestly, I think Yoshi's Island kinda works as an SMB5, I know many people don't really consider it a Mario game these days because it would later spin off into its own series, and most of the time you're not actually playing as Mario, but the game itself mechanically does build upon so much of what came in the previous 4 SMB games even though no one seems to talk about that, still very much follows the SMB style and formula for a 2D platformer while some later Yoshi games kinda wouldn't, and introduced a lot of things that would end up sticking with the series going forward; I've noticed a surprising amount of Yoshi's Island influence in later Mario games, especially in the NSMB games actually. And that final Bowser fight is a pretty fantastic final fight to conclude a sort of "SMB Pentalogy" with or whatever lol.

I guess NSMB DS could arguably be seen as a better "SMB5" since it's more same-y to the first 4 games, but really with how much "back-to-basics-ing" and simply borrowing from the older titles that game does, let alone its very title, I see that game as more of a "soft reboot" of the SMB style than anything (mechanically, not a reboot story-wise obviously lol because, well, what story? XD). But that's mostly just my opinion and I talk too much lol.

This was too varied to be an SMB 5 but lots of good ideas here. I can't wait to see what they do with Super Mario Bros. Sometimes they stil make greatness.

Metroidvania Mario? Hollow Mario crossover.

No mushroom too great.
No castle to sink.
No brick to break.
No wahoo to cry suffering.
Born of pipe and girders.
You shall seal the blazing koopa that plagues their kingdom.
You are the plumber.
You are the hollow Mario.

Now that I think about it, it would have been cool for Mario Maker to include an NES style Yoshi. Miyamoto always wanted Yoshi earlier but couldn’t get it to work on the NES, so a SMB3 (or even SMB1) version of Yoshi, with maybe limited uses (like maybe he doesn’t use his tongue) would have been neat and sort of appropriate.

These's a secret exit on Cheese Bridge where you have to jump off Yoshi at the end of the stage.

5:32 Super Mario Bros Wonder was the answer to that!

The metal cap and vanish cap would allow for some very interesting routing options in that potential game if they were implemented in the same fashion as SM64

Wouldn't that be wild if enemies could ride Yoshi?

I'll never understand how people don't think SMB3 wasn't the best Mario game or real dang close -- this is reminding me of that so much.

That game is excellent. Considering how SMB2J is so difficult, if we think of this as sort of SMB5J, being a sequel specifically to Mario World, then it makes sense that it could be a bit more difficult than we usually expect from Nintendo Mario games. The general character of the game feels very Nintendo, and I think Nintendo's tendency to include some ambitious level-design justifies most everything in this game (not that softlock, but I think that is just an oversight, which is ok).

Part 1 - QYW-FNW-61H
Part 2 - N20-L41-QGG

This is my traditional full game made in SMB3 style. It combines
levels from SMB1, 2, 3, lost levels and e-reader. It's 77 levels and
uses 2 super worlds.

When I thought of the idea of a _Super Mario Bros. 5_, then I thought of _Yoshi's Island_ . _Yoshi's Island_ is advertised as Super Mario World 2, with the original _Super Mario World_ advertised as Super Mario Bros. 4. So it's the sequel to the fourth installment in the _SMB_ series, so would that consider it SMB5?
And would that consider all future _Yoshi_ series games part of the original _Super Mario Bros._ series?
