Linux Mint 17 “Qiana” KDE Edition Review

Review of Linux Mint 17 KDE Edition. This is my first official review of a Mint KDE distro, and disappointingly it no longer matches the styling of their Cinnamon or MATE release.
At first glance this system now looks like Kubuntu 14.04 with a different wallpaper, the restricted extras installed, and Windows / Super key bound to the Application launcher.
But it is potentially better at providing drivers for more obscure hardware, e.g. Wifi or Graphics cards.

Nice review! Would like to see a current LMDE review. Anymore, I'm tired of Ubuntu changing my entire reality whenever a version changes + couldn't get it to install on a UEFI laptop last time (a year ago), so I tried LMDE MATE and appreciated how I could install it and start using my computer(s) right away. KDE 3.5.1 spoiled me with a no frills simple desktop that maximized my work. Ever since that went away, linux hasn't been the same for me.

The Cinnamon version is better. Do you plan on reviewing that?
Regarding the kernels in Mint, have a look in the menu of the Update Manager and you will find an easy way of getting new kernels in Mint ;)

With SSDs on the market, does anyone really worry about bootup time anymore? It's gonna be one of those parameters that no one will bother checking anymore. Not to toot my own horn, but I have a shitty SSD and my box is up and running in 1.68 seconds. Even faster from suspend.

For a change i decided to use Mint 17 KDE on this laptop and i really don't like it at all, going to download Mint Mate/XFCE as i find those desktops more intuitive for me at least.
