This song is about Gerards struggles with his brother, Mikey the bassist. Is often considered to be a part of a dialogue the brothers had about depression. Mike struggled with suicide. He is still with us, thank god. He now has a family and a lovely wife.

When I was a kid this whole album helped me come to terms with my mom cancer (which the whole albums about) In the process of that, I became severely depressed. And I can honestly say it was this specific song that saved my life. It just makes you want to live

So here's the scoop on this song: The Basist, Mikey Way (lead singer Gerard's younger brother) wanted to leave the band. It was too hard on him psychologically, dealing with the fame. He was only staying for his brother and the guys in the band. This song is based on his feelings about being able to walk away from the band and being OK with that. Spoiler alert: He didn't leave, just took a break and came back.

I love My Chemical Romance and I enjoy looking up others reactions to them.
This is one of their best and most popular songs. It's definitely a fan favourite because of the empowering message "I'm not afraid to keep on living, I'm not afraid to walk this world alone."

Also this song was inspired by Mikey Way- the bassist, who was struggling with mental health issues at the time they were recording the album that this song comes from and did temporarily leave the band. The lead singer, Gerard Way (Mikey Way's brother), and the rest of the band made the song as an act of solidarity.

That whole Black Parade album is fantastic!! The lyrics are profound... wrapped in energetic EMO/Punk.
One of the few albums I always play straight through.
Gerard is a huge talent. He's done comic books, and the Netflix show The Umbrella Academy.

The Black Parade is based of off death and something about soldiers. It has alot of depth but i don't remember the concept. It also has videos as well that show us a purgatory limbo type of state

I recommend checking the accompanying videos out because those are an experience all their own that the lyrics cannot do justice to. (Just like any band tbh haha). Got into this band in my late teens and fell in love with their sound. Their first album is by far my favorite along with their third “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge”. Lot of good GOOD songs on “Three Cheers” if you love the heavier stuff.

The album before this one Three cheers for sweet revenge is a No skip type of album for me and it’s their first!
