"But it's nowhere close to the US..." - right, CNN, we all understand that you have to say something to make BubblegumLand feel good. Russia doesn't need to pay for all NATO countries unlike USA because unlike USA we don't want and don't need to put entire world under control, everything we need is to defend Russians in Russia and abroad in CIS and fighting ISIS, not for invasions in the countries in opposite hemisphere to take off the governemnts we don't like, and we don't need +100 bases around the world. And don't forget that Russia still has 1.6 times more nukes than USA. But the real question is why the USA with it's "giant military budget" couln't make any effect in fighting ISIS in Syria for several years while less than a year of Russian operation was enough to kick ISIS from tens of cities including Palmyra? Maybe USA was too buisy trying to kick off the legal Syrian government and founding Al-Nusra terrorists?

Russia doesn’t spend as much money on it’s army because it doesn’t have to, they don’t need to import nearly as much as the US does. A country bigger than Pluto with many natural resources. The manufacturers are all private companies in the US while Russia it’s mostly state owned. Their equipment is also more economically efficient as it’s often “cheap” compared to what the US has. Look at the F-22 for example, it costs around 150 million USD per unit while Russia’s SU57 costs only around 55 million and is far superior both in firepower, radar and maneuverability.
