Trust me iit students get such privileges its not even logical . My bf is from iitr meta branch and he graduated with 6 cgpa . He got placed outisde campus . He didn’t even have to put in any work . He basically treated his 4 yr degree like some holiday package his words not mine . 💀

Hello Tarun, I was trying for PhD, emailed to probably 100+ professors. Got reply from 12. You gotta keep trying. And no one will ever reply if they're not interested. Keep going and working hard.

This is true not only for internships but also masters admission. The selection and admission process is very fishy, unfair and not transparent even a bit. Makes sense why a lot of us would love to study abroad with better opportunities and less politics to deal with. Ironically profs from so called premier institutes write a Harvard long essay on why students have stopped taking interest in pursuing research in India when they barely open up Emails from students.

Whatever you said in this is absolutely correct ..even I felt the same after their list was out. Although I am going to IITK in pure science but i Don't have much research experience being undergrad, so I thought may be they wanted someone experienced. But then I saw some of my friends and seniors who had cracked several national level exams and also studying at IITs or NITs with some experience getting rejected .So i Don't really know why they even put that advertisement for internships if everything is predecided or what criteria they are looking for...

See the main reason is that if you go outside the institute then you obviously need to pay for your expenses there. However if you apply in the same institution for internship then its a big relief in terms of money. Very very minimal number of students are there who get INSPIRE DST scholarship. Moreover it is usually advised that first year students do their internship in their institute to lay a good base for research work. After second or third year the students usually get some stipend for doing internship in other institute.
