The helmet is designed that way because the crest is meant to help keep soldiers safe in a lot of ways. Roman soldier would put a wood shim in the front to keep the crest from falling out unless the soldier pulled it out or someone else did.

Lol I'm going to be the one to say it, that helmet was made as a decoration and not to be used. That's why it was 99 dollars and hanging on the wall at the shop. Though I did find this part of the hilarious 😂.
