The D metro line is a planned metro line in Prague. It has been in the planning stage for over 50 years now, and yet, only marginal progress has been made. Join us in this short documentary about the Prague D metro line, and how numerous factors, like car brains, regime changes, financial crises, and the whole ODS party delayed its construction by over 50 years.

My goodness, this story has been much longer and more complicated than I expected! One would think that a city with such iconic metro system as Prague wouldn't experience such problems trying to add a new line - also crazy to learn that the car brains are holding such strong positions there... keeping my fingers crossed for Line D anyway. Car Brains - I love that wording. :) I highly apreciate your insights. I have been following Prague's tram and metro network for 15 years now. I always thought, that the D- and E- lines were set. Well, I always thought things are SLOW in Germany. Looks like it's not a german problem only. :)

Are you up for a video on planned extension of the tram network? I had the book on the aniversary of public transport in Prague. There were planes for extensive new trams in the north and in the south. I would love some insights on that.

In my city, Milan the construction of Metro meant that a lot of tramways tracks operating on the streets above were removed.
I wonder if it happened also in Prague, or if the existence of some level of service was considered sufficient to keep the line from being built.
Last thing, for foreigners like me, that do not know Czech or Czech history and personalities, the name of the stations is really interchangeable as I cannot recall any that you have mentioned, so I would suggest if you could mention along with the station name the destinations served (main square, museum, university etc.)-.
That additional information will help the viewer to understand why the project is important and why he should care.

I lived in Prague for 9 years and I know I live in Poznań in Poland the thing I miss is the metro

Pankrác is now closed for reconstruction and connected with Olbrachtová, but the reconstruction will take 1 year and even then, line D won't run until Depo Písnice is fully constructed. If it took around 1-2 years to construct 1 km of line D, then it might as well take around 7-12 years to construct the full 10, 6 km of line D, so I doubt that line D will debut in 2029 or 2031 as DPP promised. I also found out that there was a proposal for a new metro line O (or E).

This reminds me so much of Bucharest Metro M6, which has just started construction after too many delays. It's crazy how much time it takes to complete something in eastern european countries compared to western european countries like Germany (except for BER airport)

the D line is literally useless and the plan is too futuristic, it would've already been running if they made some alterations and gave up the driverless trains.

Opravdu cením tento typ videí o naší zemi pro cizince, ale bylo by opravdu dobré zapracovat na výslovnosti a celkově prostě Angličtině. I naše přeučená ruštinářka na základce měla lepší výslovnost, to sorry... :D
