Happiness is just what happens. Not quite. What happens is a mystery which is neither happiness nor unhappiness, nor both, nor neither, see? Enlightenment itself has nothing whatsoever to do with happiness. I deny, and defy that the Buddha, for instance, was a happy man. Certainly he was and is Enlightened. But an enlightened individual is not spiritual. There is nothing sacred about enlightenment. It is perfectly ordinary. At least, this is so for those who experience IT in every moment. Everyone, in their true, original, unblemished state (ground of being) is always, ALREADY HAPPY (and...as one will find out, enlightened!) Thus, to seek happiness (or enlightenment) is to deviate from happiness (and enlightenment), and that deviation is also happiness (and enlightenment). Our vanity as wo(men) forces us to believe we exist in two worlds (happiness and unhappiness, enlightenment and ignorance), but that is only our vanity! (ego or self-importance). There is but one single world for all. We are men and must follow that world with contentment. Content-Ment IS Enlightenment. In that Emptiness is Fullness and Fullness is Emptiness. There is NO ULTIMATE TRUTH but ONLY TRUTH, SEE? Enlightenment contains not only happiness but EVERYTHING. There is no-thing that IT does not contain, see? Thus CONTENTMENT is the state of CONTAINING ALL AND EVERYTHING. I believe this is the answer he/you are looking for.
