The irony of a religious cult banning Twilight, which was written by a member of a religious cult.

Thank you for talking about this! I didn't end up reading a lot of books that were banned until I turned 18. Harry Potter was definitely one of the big ones, and I still hesitate at Twilight 😅

Funny thing is, Twilight is as conservative as it gets. The protagonists don't have sex before marriage and terrible gender roles 😅

Funny thing, i was also forbidden Harry Potter.
I then found a very unknown book called Bran Hambric – The Farfield Curse, which literally is about an orphan boy growing up with abusive relatives who then finds out he's THE most important mage ever.
I was allowed to read that because my parents didn't check what the book was and it was too unknown for their church to have written a whole-ass thesis on (like it had on HP... i found an excerpt that analyzed why it was evil. This implies that some christian *did* read it obsessively enough to write pages upon pages about it. Basically counts as fan fiction, right? 😅)

I feel you, also had a similar experience growing up in a Christian household and parents had a book on children's books and media that was 'evil'. It had harry Potter, pokemon, Barbie and all sorts of stuff on the cover. Now my favorite media is anything gay/ queer 🎉

I cried laughing when Jannette Oak came up. I wasn’t allowed them either but my mom would leave them in the bathroom and I thought I was so sneaky when I read them. So niche but so relatable

I feel for kids who weren't allow to read Harry potter i went to school with 2 girls who weren't allowed to read it so when our teacher read the book to the class they read thier own books but i sware they'd secretly listen. I was so tempted to send them a Harry potter book when they turn 18 only issue was i didn't know if the still lived at the house that i knew they did when at school

i think it would be a really cool video idea to rank all the books you’ve read so far in 2023

That makes your mom more psycho than mine. Our church had a library you could borrow from and the "When Calls" series was *very* popular. My mom pushed me to read ONLY books from the church I far preferred the Harlequins I stole from my grandmother. 😂

I love Harry Potter! I've read the entire series too many times to count.

What the powers that be that run our world don’t want us to know is that we all have powers and are magical beings and for centuries they have kept us from knowing so they stay in power, true story all you need to do is look for the truth ❤❤❤

2, 000 like! I also grew up in a cult(some people could call it that), it was no where near as bad as yours though! Hope you are doing well!❤

The twilight books read like they were written by a teenager. They are so poorly written a child could have wrote them.

I gotta know what books you were allowed to read because I can't think of anything other than books meant for toddlers
