EPSRC considers what the world would be like without mathematical sciences research

#Mathematics is the language of #science, without it we wouldn't be able to measure or make anything. It provides the foundation for everything from money, to housing and roads, to hospitals and food production, to #internet and defence.

Every advance in science has had mathematics at its core. From systems that ensure smooth traffic flow and safer air travel, to the algorithms behind cyber security, and the technology in our smartphones.

Because the world is underpinned by mathematical patterns and structures. Mathematics delivers real world impact in its own right.

EPSRC researchers have been using techniques like data analysis modelling and optimisation to help improve many services we use and take for granted in everyday life.

I want maths but no algebra
Btw, great video

...but in a world without physicists and astronomers, the world might be spinning the wrong way round, like at the end of this video!

Math is a Science so truly science is important to teach and learn.

The reality is that if we didn’t have mathematics we couldn’t do anything STEM related. Here’s why…

1:Computer are ONLY possible with math, so no math means no computer (there goes EVERY technological and scientific advancement since the 1800)

2: before modern technology there was science but its ONLY possible to do science with math. You literally can’t even do basic newtonian physics without mathematics and physics is the basis of all sciences. People that say trial and error don’t know what science is, you only know what you’re looking for because math tells you what to look for and you only know what’s happening in those trial and errors if you can do math to measure and calculate and describe the relationships thus applying that newly gained mathematical knowledge to other things, THAT is ALL of science.

3:engineering existed before all…..sorry…nope. Engineering is still only possible if you can count, measure, calculate, math was being done before engineering. Engineering is again only possible to do if you have the mathematics such as geometry, algebra, arithmetic, trigonometry, and in modern days, calculus and statistics

4:Farming isn’t possible without counting, measuring, calendars, time. That’s famine in large agricultural non hunter gatherer societies.

5:our most basic actions as humans are also done only through approximation; hunting, distance, sense of quantity, sense of shape.

Have fun.
