Madison mayor gets frustrated with media during press conference

Her responses are those of someone annoyed at having to show up to a press conference about an awful tragedy. She's an embarrassment to this city. Worst. Mayor. Ever.

I'm gonna put aside that she seems like a Karen. Although I definitely agree that it's none of the public's business who got harmed, suppression of information is also not a good angle and can (and may likely will) backfire. It leaves too much room for misinformation and conspiracy theories to take hold and make things worse than if the information was just released. Now instead of giving out names, the professional response should have just been "xx amount of adults, teachers, children were harmed/killed, but with respect to their privacy, we will be releasing names at a later time". And that's it. She didn't have to go all Karen because now that she's expressed an attitude, she's' set herself up to get dragged for her handling of the situation and a failure of having a system of "recognizing the signs" in problem kids. Just looking at the girl's pictures, I can definitely tell she was a kid experiencing some emotional problems, so I'm expecting the media to eat that s*t up.

I live in this community, and I am SO thankful that the mayor said that to the press. People are in pain, and the media just keeps rubbing salt in the wounds. It really bugs me to see those kids on TV being badgered by the press about what they experienced. The kids are still in complete shock, and yet the media is there slamming cameras, microphones and boom mics in their faces like it is some sort of circus. It's gross and they need to give everyone some space. Let us breath, and heal.

I don’t know if that God-send of a woman is republican or democrat and frankly I don’t care all of us ALCSers would love to give her a hug and a handshake because she said everything we wanted someone to say. She stood up for us while we were down. As she said, “have some human decency and let us grieve”

She’s more upset that she has to do her job, The only wrong the media can do is to report false information. So the questions they are asking is coming FROM the local community and family members. Is real simple to keep it professional as a public servant and say “ That question I can’t answer or just be honest and say you don’t know at the moment, we will keep you informed.
