4 - Reading Actively: How to Annotate a Text

When you read literature, reading actively is always the way to go. This video provides an overview of seven useful things to mark when reading actively: emotional sparks, figurative language, patterns, shifts, genre, allusions, and questions.

This video was actually helpful considering this is the only one that tells you how to annotate by telling you what you should be looking for instead of all those YouTuber's who tell you how they design, annotate, and mark their book colorfully or what brand they recommend which is really useless information.

The worst thing for the reusability of any text is to encourage people to scribble in it with highlighters, pens and markers. If you must mark it up, do use a light erasable instrument. A book can be reused for many, many readers and there are so many people around the world who cannot afford them. To treat them like a single use item is self indulgent in the extreme.

Ironic or intentional? The first shot of the student writing in her book using an INK PEN is to mark "an abomination" (1:25). As with sheet music, make your notes in light PENCIL only, or even better, removable color post-it tabs; don't ruin your books for yourself or the next user/ owner!

Why?! WHY?! Why education...for we are trapped in a world where we are chained by YEARS of education just to get a job working in an office. About 18 years of educational not looking to argue with I am sincerely a student who is worried about being chained by education 'til teachers do not reply to this students feel free to reply if you feel the same in a not so complicated language as I am for sounding so formal in that last part..What I meant was just reply if you want, I don't really care.
