Oh my, Grandma from Kansas here, in tears. Wow ! What a powerful video Doug. I remember my Momma reading that to me. She's been gone 34 years now but this really took me back to gentler times. I'm also crying as this ol farm girl has had to leave the country life to be in a city, close to my son and his family and medical facilities. As I was listening I'd just come in from sitting on my front porch thinking about my husband, who passed on over 11 years ago now. Momma, Daddy, my younger brother, all gone on before me. I'm sitting here feeling like that old tree... given all she can give . But, I carry on giving love, hugs a kind word and a ear to listen. Thank you so much for this video ! You take all the time you need. I've become really good at patience !!

i was at a regional training for a non profit youth organization I worked for in the 90s. The facilitator was this awesome guy from the Caribbean. He read The Giving Tree at the end of the week. The house and lot I sold 7 years ago had a tydeman apple tree which was more than 100 years old. The new owner cut it down to just a stump. The tree didn’t give up, it grew a new tree from the stump!

Thanks for story time Doug, I cried every time that I read that book to my son when he was little. Everything looks so pretty in front of the cabin. My mom was diagnosed with cancer last week. I planted a bunch of garlic and onions today. I hope she will be enjoying them when they are ready next year. Thank you for the videos, it is a nice distraction.

Thanks for reading 'The Giving Tree'. I enjoyed it very much. I've been feeling rather melancholy of late and I guess I've been looking for my stump....I turned 81 this year and my world changed. Many changes have taken place this year. I will keep looking...it must be here somewhere.

Awww Doug - this was very sweet to watch and what a wonderful idea to use the story to explain what is happening with you. It was obvious of course that you were both the tree and the both of you tired and nothing left to give. I cried with you and felt your are right to focus on what needs attending to (your healing) and worry about us isnt going to help with that. Those subscribers who genuinely care about you are going to be here and delighted to see you when you come back to us even if it has been a long time. Money chasing was what drove you out of the city and it must be really easy to get caughtup making the exact same mistakes with the absolute best intentions. Refocus on the moment you are living in, each and every one of them and take joy and healing from it.
Enjoy your friends, your family, your animals and your productivity, the healthy food and the healthy scenery. I dont believe it was ever your intention to become 'rich' monetarily by coming to off-grid living, the richness comes from the intentional presence in every moment of your day. I suggest 99 percent of us regard you as 'internet family' and like any family, we dont stop loving because we dont hear from you as often....we love you all the more for showing us how to truly be 'happy'. xxx
