To Answer The Question: Which Manufacturer Makes the Best Flat Panel HDTV?
Robert Zohn, founder and president of Value Electronics, commented: "Our Shootout has proven to be a 'must attend' event among true HD enthusiasts and industry leaders each year, featuring a demonstration of how flat screen HDTVs perform." With the introduction of Ultra HD and OLED as well as the great advancements of LED and PDP technologies, this will be a great year for flat panel displays.
The 9th Annual Flat Panel Shootout will involve:
- Kevin Miller of ISFTV and TweakTV, along with respected UK TV reviewer David Mackenzie, Dewayne Davis, and Ed Johnson will join our team of expert calibrators to test and calibrate the panels and provide their findings and other key background information in individual presentations. National trainers and product specialists from the manufacturers have been invited to present product features as well.
- Contrast ratio, peak brightness, black level, color accuracy, color saturation, motion resolution and energy efficiency will be measured, compared, and discussed. The 3D performance of each set will be evaluated as well. The audience will vote on each of the four picture quality attributes, with the winning panel crowned "King of HDTV."
- All tested panels will be concurrently fed through a professional HDMI distribution amp from the same reference Blu-ray player using the exact same HDMI cables for all panels. Furthermore, the a/c power will be a dedicated 20 amp circuit run through a power conditioner.
- A Q&A session will be held at the end of each presentation.
"In addition to the tested panels, several manufacturers are expected to display and provide information about advanced products that will launch in the future, with image and audio that provides a true reference quality for the audiophile and videophile," Mr. Zohn added.
Shootout findings will be available within one week of the events for members of the press who contact Value Electronics.

Between the two VT60 and the ZT60, the VT seems to be the better value. The filter on the ZT has a advantage in bright rooms, thats it. The VT seems more value for your money.

Hey Robert, what happened to the other videos of the 2013 shootout?

1. 6:50 Is the off axis ghosting the man is referring to (which is a product of viewing high contrast images at an extreme angle) caused by ambient light or would it be noticeable in the dark too?
2. Does the filter of the ZT provide any benefits in over the VT in an environment free of ambient light?
3. In an environment free of ambient light, where reflection would not be a problem on the VT, would the VT yield better contrast/PQ due to it's ability to achieve up to 35fl?

Lastly, why does the elimination of space between the front of the screen and the front of the panel on the zt60 make the overall image dimmer than on the vt60?

Will oled when it gets it's kinks worked out actually make a better image than plasma, if anybody can shed some light on this, let me know, would love to hear from you

Panasonic has issued a free in home fan noise fix, call 1-800-211-PANA (7262) if you’re experiencing excessive fan noise. It isn’t the fans themselves that emit the noise, the noise is created by the airflow inside the panel when the fans operate from what I’ve read on the forums and help pages.
