Access the link below for the full-length, in-depth AKAI MPD226 / MPD218 reviews and tests which go far beyond what’s covered in this video:

If you own the AKAI MPD 226 you can easily expand the number of your pads from 16 to 32. Just put an AKAI MPD 218 next to your MPD 226 on the left-hand side. That's a great setup for finger drumming with the XpressPads technique.

In this video I'll show you what you should consider when you play with such a setup.

i have the mpd 226 but i find that i get a lot of double touches and it it also doesnt lay flat on the table - it kind of warped from heat from somewhere.... i love the lights on the mpd 226

Is the difference between them worth 100 dollars? Which one would you recommend buying? I'm doubting on the 226 because some people have been having problems with it. Thx

You forgot to mention that the 226 has a Threshold adjustment parameter that does absolutely nothing, and that the pads often trigger twice when you hit the pad once. This is unfixable.

Akai are aware of this problem but have said they'll do absolutely nothing to remedy it. So don't think you'll be able to use this for live work, because you can't. It's just not reliable enough.

If you're using it to lay out drum patterns for a track, it's useable, but you'll have to keep going back and editing out the random hits that the unit has made itself. Not ideal really.
