1 add on:
PAT is both for equity as well as preference shareholders (if company had issued preference shares) so we have to deduct preference dividend from PAT to get Equity Earnings or Profit Available for Equity Shareholders (PAFESH) and then divide PAFESH by no. Of EQUITY shares to get EPS.
Again just simply dividing it by no. Of shares will not give you correct EPS, we have to take weighted average number of outstanding shares (taking time as a base) to get correct no. Of EQUITY shares and thereby getting correct EPS.
Ofcourse there are other factors too specified by AS-20 to be considered while computing EPS

I have one doubt whether P/E ratio is calculated based on Quarterly or Yearly earnings. In other words at the time of P/E ratio calculation whether EPS for the latest quarter is considered or the current financial year.
